The Dracaena Compacta, also known as Dracaena deremensis 'Compacta' or Dwarf Dracaena, is a compact and slow-growing variety of Dracaena. Dracaena Compacta prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. Place it near a window where it can receive filtered sunlight or artificial light.
Allow the top inch or two of soil to dry out before watering. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot. In winter, reduce watering frequency. Use well-draining potting soil. A mix formulated for houseplants or tropical plants works well. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent water from accumulating at the roots.
Dracaena Compacta prefers temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Protect it from cold drafts, as they can cause leaf damage. Dracaena Compacta can tolerate average indoor humidity but benefits from occasional misting or grouping with other plants to increase humidity. Feed your Dracaena Compacta with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce or stop fertilization in fall and winter when growth slows down.
Prune your Dracaena Compacta as needed to maintain its size and shape. Remove any dead or yellowing leaves, and trim back leggy growth to encourage bushier growth. Repot your Dracaena Compacta every few years to refresh the soil and provide room for root growth. Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the current one, with drainage holes.
Dracaena plants, including Dracaena Compacta, are toxic to cats, dogs, and other pets if ingested. Keep them out of reach of pets, and wash your hands after handling the plant. With proper care, your Dracaena Compacta can thrive and add beauty to your indoor space. Enjoy its compact growth habit and attractive foliage!
